Top of the pops
Top of the pops:
Magazine analysis…
Front cover
The front cover it is quite crowded with many things all
over the place.
The bright colours may suggest it is targeted at a younger
generation where it will easily catch their attention. There is a wide use of
yellow and pink as they are very vibrant colours.
Multiple stars are placed on the front cover to draw people’s
attention and interest them.
The main stars are placed at a mid-shot on the right side of
the cover.
The bar code/issue number are placed at the bottom of the
page as that is generally where they are put.
The puff is at the bottom right and shows many stars and
makes the audience want to turn the page as it says “full of fit fancies
including…”
The masthead is positioned at the top left, this is so when
it is put out in shops and magazines overlap the logo will not get covered.
The skyline is a snippet of what is held inside the
magazine.
The language on the front cover shows a lot of puns which may
be to entertain the targeted audience.
It is a very informal magazine with its main purpose being
to entertain and amuse readers.
Contents Page
Carries the same colour scheme as the front cover which
shows it is consistent and fluent
There isn’t much information or any ordered page numbers,
however there are pictures of certain pages inside with the page number stated
with it. There is also a picture of the front cover with arrows pointing to
different celebs and topics –this is a clear indication of what pages to go to.
There is an editor’s blog which tells you a little more
about the magazine.
There are pictures placed to give you an insight of what
else there is, they have captions with them telling us what they are about.
On the side of the page there are credits for what is placed
on the front cover.

Pop Music
Pop Music...
Pop music is a genre of popular music
that originated in its modern form in the Western world during the 1950s and
1960s as a softer alternative to rock and roll. The terms "popular
music" and "pop music" are often used interchangeably, although
the former describes all music that is popular (and can include any style).
Although pop music is seen
as just the singles charts, it is not the sum of all chart music. Pop music
is eclectic, and often borrows elements from other styles such as urban, dance, rock, latin and country; nonetheless, there are core elements that define
pop music. Identifying factors include generally short to medium-length songs
written in a basic format (often the verse-chorus structure) as well as the common employment of repeated
choruses, melodic tunes, and hooks.
David Hatch and Stephen Millward define pop music as
"a body of music which is distinguishable from popular, jazz, and folk music". According to Pete Seeger, pop music is "professional music which
draws upon both folk music and fine arts music". Although pop music is seen as just the singles charts, it is not the sum of all chart music. The music
charts contain songs from a variety of sources, including classical, jazz, rock, and novelty. Pop music, as a genre, is seen as
existing and developing separately. Thus "pop music" may be used
to describe a distinct genre, aimed at a youth market, often characterized as a
softer alternative to rock. Musicologist Allan Moore surmises that
the term "pop music" it may have originated from pop art.
I
chose this genre because it is a very popular genre that everyone has heard, not only
is it becoming more well-known but people love a good beat and pop is full of
them. It is seen as ‘new’ and ‘modern’ genre and is listened to by everyone. I enjoy all
types of music however ‘pop’ music always catches my attention and makes me
want to dance and sing along.
