Feedback for Rough magazine (College magazine)

www- You have a nice picture, which represents a college magazine very well. Target- It would be good if you change font because it quite hard to read on Cover page (College magazine)
on 09/12/16
Your magazine cover and contents page plan looks decent. in order to make it look better, i suggest you work on it and add more special magazine features like mentioned above in sopna's comment. on Rough Magazine...
on 28/11/16
Front cover lacks other features such as sub-headlines, a barcode or a puff. Your DPS shows good use of language to show the youth and enthusiasm of the artist and also represents the genre well. on Rough Magazine...

These are the comments I received for my college magazine (preliminary task), looking at these I realised that I needed to embed more magazine features such as coverlines, skyline, barcode etc. I also found that my general house style needed more work. For example, the font and style wasn't consistent and needed more focus on. I also felt as if the layout wasn't that professional and should have been laid out differently. This also was relevant to my rough music magazine.

I also gathered good aspects from these comment, which are that my image that I took of my cover star was good, I also had good language to represent the genre and it represented my age group well.

I found from this that the house style had improved and I had linked my colours well. It also consistently worked throughout my magazine and looked compatible with my target audience.

Work in progress- Contents page

I have begun placing things on my contents page where I will have multiple images, and show a frequent colour scheme. I am waiting to carry out my photography shoot then I will co-ordinate my colour scheme according to my model. After I have finished my front cover a clear image will also be placed on the contents.

Work in progress- Contents Page

I used guidelines to help make my contents page look more organised. The masthead is there to show that the magazine has its own stamp on it and is consistent with its colour scheme and order.

Researched Music Magazine Poses

General Music Magazines...

Pop Music magazines...

I found that the difference between the two was...

 - General magazines seem to be more serious and look more dominant and powerful whereas the pop magazines portray cheery, enthusiastic stars who give off a happy vibe.

- The general music magazines seem to target an older more sensible age where the pop magazines aim their magazines at pre-teens and teens that are attracted to big celebs which will make them buy the magazine.

-Colour schemes are different, the general magazines have a straightforward 3 choice scheme, in the pop magazine vibrant, bright and eye-catching colours are used to catch their audience's eye and intrigue them.

Work in progress - Flat plan for music magazine

I begun my flat plan for my music magazine which I have not completed to give me a better idea of what to place on my front cover and contents page.
After this my main focus would be my photography shoot and planning necessary equipment, makeup and style for the shoot.

Call sheet

Aksa. Mudassir

Concept:
The shoot will have a very bright, friendly feel. Models should be confident and comfortable with posing and moulding to the friendly yet professional look I am going for. Although I want it to be friendly the model should hold a surprised/secretive expression which will represent the main gossip feature of the magazine.

Style:

The model should wear a simple colour top with jeans however a bold watch/jewellery and a bright lip colour must be worn. Make up and the colour of clothes should be bright or easily seen which should reflect the magazine theme and to target the right audience.

Magazine proposal

I chose the music genre pop, this is because it is very popular in today's society. Many people hear the words “pop music” and instantly think of top 40 hits and repetitive songs on the radio.

Content...
My magazine will include various artists who are well known which will aim to intrigue the readers and draw them in. The magazine will run monthly and produce up-to-date news and advice column for the target audience - mainly women.

Throughout the magazine images of popular artists will appear with interesting articles attached as well as facts and relevant information linked to them. Like many magazines a number of pages will be advertisements, that should make up about 60% of the magazine for readers to browse over.

The magazine will produce a monthly advice column for women and teenagers. This will include frequently asked questions from the audience and different advice quotes from celebs and different aspiring artists.

The target audience for my magazine will be late teens and young adults, this would range from ages 16-35 where they can be drawn in by the latest celeb gossip to step-by-steps and tutorials.

House style...
There will be a consistent colour scheme throughout which creates a sense of uni-formality for the readers and a professional layout will follow.

Layout...
There will be a consistency throughout the magazine, allowing it to look professional and informative.

The masthead will be bold and recognisable for readers to notice within supermarkets and local stores, however, I would like to adapt a student-friendly font to it to make it seem approachable.

"Work in progress" -Masthead ideas

This was my final masthead and I was ready to use it, however I realised it needed to be more simpler. I chose the bright and friendly font in order to emphasise the target audience and draw attention to it.

I began changing and forming a few unique shapes on Adobe Illustrator and have yet to embed the colours and use of text, my outcome should be simpler than the previous masthead and still maintain its eye-catching friendly look.
